The San Diego Model Railroad Club, now the Association, began in 1980 to plan new layouts in the newly created Model Railroad Museum. Approximately 4400 sq.ft. of space was allocated to the HO layout (to be based on the prototype San Diego & Arizona Eastern Ry.) Pre-construction standards proposed were as follows:

TRACKWORK
Rail: Nickel silver - flex with scale tie plates and spike heads

MINIMUM RADIUS "S" CURVES TURNOUTS MAXIMUM GRADIENT
